Every 30 minutes someone in this country dies in an alcohol-related crash!
Ignition Interlock is the ONLY device that Stops Drinking and Driving!
What is Ignition Interlock ?
A deep lung breath analyzer placed on a person's vehicle, designed to prevent a driver from operating a vehicle when their breath alcohol concentration is at or above a predetermined limit, in Michigan the law for repeat offenders states 0.025.
How does it work?
Simply put, a person must blow into the “in-the-car-breath-analyzer” for approximately 6 seconds before they can start the vehicle. If the emitted breath sample is analyzed over the authorized limit the vehicle will not start, leaving the vehicle immobilized. The failed attempt is recorded and the Court is notified.
Ignition Interlock is an important tool in modifying ones behavior and serves as an alternative to costly incarceration in your county jails. Jail just continues the revolving door process of this type of offender.
Ignition Interlock does not rely on a defendant's self-control, it addresses the point at which the drinking person will try to drive their car.
Ignition interlock is an inexpensive tool, approximately $2.50/day, to monitor your defendant's habits and provide the community with a safety net.
It is proven that approximately 80% of suspended drivers will continue to drive. Taking away an offender's license is ineffective in preventing drinking and driving.
Public safety is our communities greatest concern. While an interlock device is installed on a vehicle there is up to a 95% reduction in subsequent offenses.
Features -
Alcohol Specific Sensor - Prevents false positives.
Random Rolling Retest - Requires random breath tests while the vehicle is started. This ensures that the person who starts the vehicle continues to drive the vehicle.
Anti-circumvention - Device requires a hum/blow or suck/blow pattern to submit abreath sample. If the sample is not provided in this fashion the device will notaccept the sample. This ensures that your defendant is not able to by-pass the device with a fake air supply.
Restricted Drive Times - Allows the vehicle to be locked out at high-risk times, such as evenings and weekends.
Early Service Recall - If defendant is violating or tampering they are called in for early service or the device will “lock” the vehicle.
Number of Engine Starts - Device records the number of engine starts to show if the defendant may be driving another vehicle not equipped with interlock.
Power Disconnects - Device records if the interlock has been removed from the vehicle and for how long. This is considered tampering.
